Sharon Y. Sim, founder of Sim-Krause Consulting, specializes in public relations and management consulting. Sharon brings a broad array of experiences as an entrepreneur, a senior practitioner at leading PR firms, as a media relations expert and as a television producer/journalist and writer to deliver results for her clients. Sharon was executive vice president at GolinHarris (a top 10 PR firm), and director of Panache, its Asian practice. She served as head of the San Francisco office, driving new business, marketing, media relations and servicing technology, financial, professional services and Asian-related clients with a team of talented PR professionals.
Prior to GolinHarris, Sharon was founder and president of Panache Communications for six years. Panache, an award-winning boutique agency, joined the GolinHarris network in 2006. Previously she was with WeberShandwick, the world’s largest public relations firm.
Born in Singapore, and having worked and lived in both Asia and the US, Sharon straddles both sides of the Pacific comfortably. She provides strategic and balanced perspectives to clients looking to bolster their business operations domestically and internationally.
Prior to WeberShandwick, Sharon worked for Shipley & Associates, a political consulting firm whose client portfolio included Al Gore and ex-Texas Governor Anne Richards. Sharon was former Executive TV producer at Asian American Austin, a public television program where she supervised a 30-member production crew and produced documentaries, political forums and talk shows. She also worked at software company, National Instruments, the Texas Department of Commerce and Edelman Public Relations Worldwide.
Sharon graduated with a Masters in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Journalism, Public Relations (Honors) from the University of Texas at Austin. She was a recipient of the Thomas Thompson Journalism Scholarship and the Weinberg Award for Excellence in Writing. She has a wide circle of networks and is fluent in various Chinese languages such as Mandarin, Hokkien and Teochew.
Carol L. Felton has over 30 years of building, managing and protecting companies’ corporate reputations. She has provided direction and guidance that has helped take early stage start-ups from development of their initial positioning and market entrance through IPO, as well as re-energized established blue-chip technology brands.
In addition, Carol spent 15 years with Weber Shandwick, where she served dual roles for many years. As Client Relationship Leader for Agilent Technologies for nine years she led regional and global PR programs. In addition, she headed up the Emerging Companies Group within the Technology Practice responsible for guiding numerous start-ups through launch and beyond.
Kathy has over a decade in strategic public relations, including analyst and media relations, and specializes in corporate and product positioning and reputation management; and was most recently the Analyst Relations Manager for McAfee (now Intel).
Kathy has experience running public relations programs within a PR agency setting, as well as within private and public companies. She also has experience working with public affairs and technology legislative groups, both in Washington D.C. and in the San Francisco Bay Area.
She has a successful track record of positioning companies and executives as market leaders, and has an excellent track record for garnering client visibility in trade, vertical and high profile publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, and Investor’s Business Daily, among others.
Kathy was previously with McAfee, Edleman Public Relations, and Panache Communications, an award-winning San Francisco PR firm. Kathy’s client work includes: Apple Computer, AT&T, Check Point Technologies, Economic Development Board of Singapore, HP Digital Division, Pointsec Mobile Technologies (now part of Check Point), OpenNet Coalition, Online Privacy Alliance.
Kathy has lived in several Asian countries including Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, and has traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe. She has held Board seats at the International Institute of San Francisco—including overseeing the citizenship education program—and is a former Board member of the International School of Bangkok Thailand Alumni Network Association.
Kathy has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an M.A. in International Affairs from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.
Mary Placido is a seasoned communications professional with ten years PR experience and diverse skill set in planning and strategy, project management, writing, and media and analyst relations. Her experience expands mobile/wireless, enterprise, healthcare and clean technology/energy. Past clients include Infosys, NRG Solar, ZigBee Alliance, SDL, Kaiser Permanente, Equinix, Symmetricom, Yahoo!, Cellfire, Bling Nation and Canary Foundation.
Mary also has expertise in Asian communications working with Asia-based companies launching and/or expanding in the U.S. market and U.S. companies looking to reach Asian-American audiences. Past clients in this practice: Singapore Economic Development Board, Contact Singapore, United Commercial Bank (now East West Bank), Fidelity National Financial, First American and Verizon Wireless (Northern and Southern California).
Recently she worked at GolinHarris, a global public relations firm as a media manager in the company’s technology practice. Before joining GolinHarris, Mary was an account executive at Panache Communications, a boutique PR agency.
Trisha brings a unique combination of business, marketing, legal and educational experiences to our clients. As an educator, Trisha works in the Engineering Writing Program at USC helping international computer science students with their business communication skills at the graduate level. She is a lecturer for the UCLA School of Economics where she teaches business writing and communication to international students in the Master of Applied Economics program.
Prior to teaching, Trisha worked in business development and marketing for WVIZ-TV PBS Cleveland and WTTW PBS Chicago. She brought these same skills to the client service and marketing departments at mega law firms, Sidley & Austin in Chicago and Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, as well as one mid-sized California firm, Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo. Her efforts have led to increased visibility and rankings, improved proposal/presentation quality, enhanced branding and web presence, and streamlined administrative procedures.
She is adept at drafting all types of business materials (proposals, presentations, articles, press releases, brochures, and web copy) and has a knack for creating client-centered communications on complex topics. Her stellar project management skills have led to the launch of numerous websites, the creation of knowledge management databases, and the execution of resourceful business development plans. She is well regarded for her ability to bring departmental or project costs in under budget. Her diplomacy results in cross-team participation both inside and outside an organization.
She holds a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University, a Master’s Degree in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Notre Dame.
Morgann Ramirez serves as a public relation assistant at SKC. She is an integral team member supporting senior staff on a myriad of public relations and inbound marketing activities. She is particularly proficient at media relations, market research and content creation.
For SKC’S client IngDan USA, China’s largest IoT supply-chain company, Morgann manages the design and distribution of company e-newsletters. She is also a trusted team member executing on media relations, writing and social media outreach for Apogee, higher education’s largest ResNet and video provider. She has also worked on a myriad of Kickstarter campaigns, ranging from the lightest noise cancellation earbuds to the first urban lifestyle skateboard.
